Kelly & Steven :: A Homemade Wedding in Durham

Without a doubt, one of my favorite weddings. Kelly and Steven were married on a November afternoon at their home in Durham. The day was full of personal touches. Friends baked bread and made soups and strung up lights outside. A special lady made their cake and the most delicious raspberry sauce to spoon on top. Their cats roamed about and their favorite songs played all day. Kelly and Steven were the most beautiful, generous hosts to their loved ones and to me. It was a day for the books and an honor to document.

Betsy & John :: A Family Beach House Wedding

There's nothing I love more than photographing a wedding at home. Or anywhere special and purposeful for that matter but where's more special and purposeful than home? Betsy and John were married April 30 in the backyard of Betsy's family's beach home in Pine Knoll Shores. It was perfection. Not overblown perfection, but just comfortable dig-up-the-bourbon-under-the-porch perfection.

Ryan & Bobby :: Big Love in Hotlanta

The ceremony happened weeks earlier but I was lucky enough to be on hand for the celebration that followed this month in Atlanta where I documented the gorgeous married couple with their family and friends. In the short time since these photos were made, Ryan, a friend since high school, and her husband Bobby have packed up their belongings and set out on a six-month adventure traveling the world. How. Incredible. Click here to follow their blog. Cheers to new beginnings!

Liz & Tim :: A Vintage Beach Cottage Wedding

Oh, how I loved this wedding! Liz and Tim were married the afternoon of November 8th at a charming old cottage in Atlantic Beach. The Exum Brown Welfare Cottage was built by Liz's family in 1937 and was one of the first houses on the island. It was completely endearing in every way and the people who filled its rooms and porches were equally so. The party moved to Beaufort after sunset and continued well into the night. I was honored to be the one behind the lens.

Emily & Brian :: An Uptown Greenville Wedding

Emily and Brian were married October 18 in Greenville and their wedding couldn't have been any more lovely and warm. They live and work in Washington D.C. but were surrounded by family and friends in Emily's hometown during their special weekend. It was an honor to capture their beautiful day through my lens. Here's a little peek at the magic of their wedding...

Kelly & Ben

The thing I love most about photographing weddings, selfishly perhaps, is the fly-on-a-wall status I'm granted for the most important day in someone's life. I get to witness and record tears, laughter and pure unbridled joy. There really is no better job, I tell you. Kelly and Ben's summer wedding at Atlantic Beach exemplified everything and more that is good and real about weddings. I was one happy fly.

Laura & Robert :: A Hometown Wedding

The experience of photographing the happiest day of someone's life is pretty spectacular. Laura and Robert's Duplin County wedding was no exception and I was completely honored to be a part of it. They were married in Laura's hometown church where her parents were married years earlier. It was a hot, sunny day and I was most thankful for the kind couple across the street who allowed us to borrow the shade on their property for some photographs. When I walked over to ask permission that morning, they offered me a Coke and a baby kitten - both of which I wanted, though I declined! Laura and Robert are surrounded by many beautiful, kind folks and I wish them all the happiness in the world.
